Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of therapy do you offer?
I currently offer individual therapy, primarily for women and mamas. Sessions are held online via secure teletherapy.
Do you work with couples or offer group therapy?
Yes. If you’re interested in group or couples therapy, feel free to reach out and express interest.
Do I need to be a mother to work with you?
No. I work with women, whether or not they identify as mothers. I center themes around care, identity, and healing that resonate across many life parts. I have also seen individuals who do not identify as women. It depends on what your needs are, a consultation will help us best determine if I am the right fit for you.
What is teletherapy and is it effective?
Teletherapy is therapy conducted over a secure video platform. Research shows it can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns. It offers flexibility and accessibility—especially for busy mamas and professionals. We’ll talk during your consultation to see if it’s the right fit for you.
What does a consultation involve?
Consultations are approximately 15 minutes. We talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’re looking for, and what I do. It is not a therapy session, just a chance to see if it feels like a good match.
What are your fees?
My current rate is $200 per 50-minute session. I do not accept insurance, but I can provide a superbill you may submit to your provider for out-of-network reimbursement. I also accept HSA/FSA cards.
Do you accept insurance?
The simple answer—no. Why? Because insurance companies can impose specific rules and regulations on “how” to conduct therapy, which goes against our philosophy and understanding of the therapeutic process. You should check with your insurance provider regarding your out-of-network mental health benefits.
Affordable alternatives?
As a community healer, my goal is to make services accessible to those who may not always have access. Options such as pro bono counseling can help. Reach out today to find out how you may still access services through Melanated Women’s Therapy today!
